ITS STORY
The inn was built by Orhan Bey in 1339-40 as part of his complex and is regarded as Bursa's first commercial building. It was also the city's first covered market, and goods sold in the city were weighed here. Repaired after many fires and earthquakes, it survives today; its courtyard with a fountain and plane trees is still a meeting place.
History
It was built by Gazi Orhan Bey as a part of his complex in AH 740 / AD 1339-40 in the area where the At Pazarı (Horse Market) was established.
Architecture
The inn, which is approximately 45 × 45 m in size, has a central courtyard of approximately 650 m², surrounded by arcades resting on wide piers made of cut stone and brick. The main walls are built using an alternating masonry technique using two rows of bricks and one row of limestone.
