ITS STORY
The inn is named after the saplings once sold here; it is also known as the Straw Market Inn and the Mahmud Paşa Inn. Mahmud Paşa, grand vizier of Fatih Sultan Mehmed, endowed it to fund his complex in Istanbul. Today most of its 105 shops are used by textile traders, and its courtyard has tea gardens and restaurants.
History
It got this name because saplings (fidanlar) are sold there. It is also known as the “Saman (Straw) Market Han” because straw was sold in the area for a while.
Architecture
The Fidan Han, one of the largest of Bursa’s hans, has a rectangular plan, almost square. In the construction of the building, two rows of bricks and one row of limestone are used, reflecting the architectural understanding of the period.
