ITS STORY
The inn was built in 1425 by Çelebi Mehmed to fund the Yeşil Complex; its architect was Hacı İvaz Paşa. It takes its name from the silk trade once carried on here. Repaired many times after fires and earthquakes, only its west front keeps its original form; today it is a busy building full of shops.
History
It was built and endowed by Çelebi Mehmed in 1425, simultaneously with the Yeşil Complex, in order to provide income for the complex. The architect of the structure, whose walls are built with stone and brick, was Hacı İvaz Paşa, who also undertook the construction of the complex.
Architecture
The original section of the han is the western part with its double-storey architecture. With the restoration carried out on the basis of this section, the building was renovated in accordance with the similar architectural features of city hans. A plan was chosen with an open courtyard in the middle, surrounded by double-storey galleries on all four sides.
