ITS STORY
According to records, the mosque was built in 1370 by Koca Nâib, judge of Bursa under Murad I. It takes its name from the tree that Geyikli Baba planted in front of it. Its minaret rising from the roof makes it a rare example; it was rebuilt after a fire in 1598, and its wooden minaret was replaced in brick in 1890.
History
From the record, it is understood from the phrase “The mosque built and revived by the late Koca Efendi in Kavaklı District” that it was built in 1370 by Koca Naib, the Qadi of Bursa during the reign of Murad I Hudâvendigâr. The building is called Kavaklı, an allusion to the poplar tree (kavak) planted by Geyikli Baba in front of the mosque.
Architecture
