ITS STORY
This kiosk mosque in the middle of the Koza Han courtyard is one of the few mosques built in Bursa's inn courtyards to survive in its original form. Its most thorough repair came in 1948: records showed it had originally been domed, so it was restored with a dome. As part of the historic Bazaar and Hanlar District, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014.
History
The Koza Han was built in October 1491 by Sultan Bayezid II as a foundation for his works in Istanbul. The building has not lost its importance to this day and remains a busy trade centre.
Architecture
There is a door on one side of the octagonal structure and a plaster mihrab with muqarnas hood on the other side. The masjid is built of cut stone and sits on round arches rising on eight hexagonal piers. The arch panels of the building, which has a lower window on each side, are latticed. The dome of the masjid is covered with lead.
