ITS STORY
The mosque was built in 1339-40 as part of the complex founded by Orhan Bey; only the mosque, the Emir Han and the Orhan Bath survive from it. It was burned during the Karamanid siege of 1413 and then repaired by Çelebi Mehmed. The Hanlar District it stands in became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
History
The mosque, located in the Historical Bazaars and Hans District, is located to the east of the Ulucami and to the west of the historical town hall. It was built in AH 740 / AD 1339-40, within the complex built by Orhan Bey, the son of Osman Bey, the founder of the Ottoman Empire.
Architecture
This symmetrically planned structure, an example of the early Ottoman zawiya/hospice mosques, has side sections covered with flattened barrel vaults vaults and the other sections covered with domes.
