ITS STORY
The Pirinç Han is the second large inn built after the Koza Han. Built by Sultan Bayezid II, it was begun in 1507 and finished in 1508, and has been known by this name since the early 17th century. Badly damaged in the 1855 earthquake, it went through a restoration that began in the 1980s and lasted about twenty years; today its ground-floor shops are run as coffeehouses.
History
This structure was recorded as the second largest han built after the Koza Han. Throughout history, the Koza Han was also known as “Hân-ı Cedîd-i Evvel (First New Han)”; for this reason, the Pirinç Han, which was built afterwards, was called “Hân-ı Cedîd-i Sânî (Second New Han)”.
Architecture
The portal of the building, which has a wall made of cut rubble stone and three rows of bricks, is built with cut stone and three rows of bricks. The arches, domes and vaults are built with bricks, while the courtyard arches and supporting piers are built with cut stone.
